MMA: the multidisciplinary combat sport

MMA, or Mixed Martial Arts, is the combat sport where multiple styles converge. Think of the power of kickboxing, the control of wrestling, and the technique of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

MMA is rapidly conquering the world and is currently one of the most popular combat sports. A match consists of three rounds of 5 minutes each. There are several ways to win:

  • Knockout (KO)
  • Technical Knockout (TKO)
  • Submission
  • Decision (scoring by jury)

A martial art with rules

During MMA training, you're pushed to reach your full potential. You're always fighting against someone in your weight class. Respect is paramount. People sometimes think that anything goes in MMA, but nothing could be further from the truth. Prohibited actions include:

  • Headbutts
  • Pulling hair
  • Biting
  • Punches or kicks to the back of the head, spine, or throat
